Rain, Rain, Go Away

My Great Grandparents, Esse and Estella Harmon, had 13 children. Every year on the third Saturday of June we have the Harmon Family Reunion. Now, my great grandparents are no longer alive, and out of the 13 children there are only 4 alive. However, we still gather to celebrate the lives of Esse and Estella and the incredible legacy they have left behind. A couple years ago they tried to figure out how many lives have come from those two people. I think they came up with a number some where in the 800's. Can you imagine? It is amazing that two people can create so much life. Any way, I cannot remember this reunion ever having bad weather. I suppose there is a first time for everything. It was really crummy. Wet and cold!

It was sad because there were so many kids who wanted to play at this really awesome playground, but it was raining buckets upon buckets. I wonder how many people now have colds because of it?

On a different note: name tags are always passed out at the reunion because there are so many of us and people want to know which of Esse and Estella's kids you come from soo...

This is Jefferson and his name tag. Usually it's just a picture of the child you belong to, but this year they changed it, and I think it was a great change. I miss my grandpa so much and I wish he were here so Jefferson could climb on his lap and be called a scalliwag, like he used to call me, but that is not to be. I like this picture because Jefferson is a part of Grandpa so the name tag is fitting.

Jefferson got his first taste of a sucker from Nana and he really enjoyed it. So much so, that Nana had a hard time getting him to let her take it out of his mouth again!!

Doesnt' he look like a little gremlin? He is up to no good I tell you!

  1. O.K. now I understand what the special family event was for Kara's family on June 19th weekend. So you guys were really reunioning too. Jason was reserved and didn't really fess up as to what the activity was that ya'll were going to. So, that reunion lands on your anniversary each year most likely? No wonder you anniversaried a weekend early. Anyway, we did not possibly expect you to go all of the way to California that weekend. But, Jessica, Tyson and Landon have been down there for almost a whole two weeks! They all needed to get away from the Wasatch Front. Especially Jessica who needed her first real vacation in a very long time. Tyson got really excited when he found out his grandmother Nielson's father (who is a Riley) is connected in relationship to the Ray Riley bunch who are in Benita Riley's relatives. I think I have the connection right. My dad Ken brought it up when he was looking through Dana's book which Ty & Jess had given to him. Ray Riley was born in Ogden. They will all explain the relationships later.

  2. It really, really is too bad the children didn't get to play in the castle in the park. What a bummer! Is this in Salt Lake or where?

Is Kara's grandpa Cyril? Maternal grandfather? Who has the Clyde name in it by which Jefferson was named after? Is it a different side of the family? It wasn't Cyril's middle name was it?

Send me Jefferson's ancestral pedigree sometime. That would be good to have with Kara & Jason's pedigree at our house on our records, also.

  3. Between that picture and the one I have of him with his Harley shirt on, you've got a rebel in the making. Good luck.
