Once upon a time in the not so distant past, I played a lot of basketball. Seriously, the ball was like another appendage. However, since having Jefferson and being busy with life I haven't been able to play very often. Well, I haven't been able to play at all. It's really sad. So Jason got called to the Young Men's Presidency and as part of his calling he is over the sports. Every Thursday Jefferson and I would accompany Jason to the church and watch the basketball games and Jefferson would pretend he was four feet taller and that he could play with the big boys. It was really fun to watch and it made me long for the good ole days when I was on a team. So, the other night we had a ward game night and half of the gym was left open for basketball. I grabbed a ball and quickly shot a basket from the free throw line. AND. I. AIR-BALLED. REALLY. BAD. I was so heartbreakingly embarrassed at how bad it was. I have now transfered all my hopes and dreams of being a great basketball star onto Jefferson. He already has mad skills! Check it out.

ReplyDeleteI know the feeling. Last time I picked up a ball, Karl shot better than I did. He shoots like a Beehive. Talk about depressing. I'll stick to coaching now.
I remember when Joseph was 4 - 7 years old and Jason was between 14 & 17 years old. Whenever I would take the older ones to YM/YW or go over to talk to someone about scouting Joseph would go in where the BIG boys were and try to join in. IT WOULD TAKE ME FOREVER TO GET HIM OUT OF THERE! HE WOULD KEEP SNEAKING BACK IN! Jason has more of the egg beater kick for a water polo goalie. Basketball was not necessarily his cup of tea. I think it would be neat sometime if you (Kara) got called to be in sports with the Young Women sometime. Either way . . . keep having fun with Jefferson.
ReplyDeleteBack in 1999 - 2002 I was still playing Adult Church Women's Basketball. We had a couple of really good seasons here in Georgetown, Texas and Austin Stake. IT WAS ALL FOR FUN! I was in my mid to late forties. By the time the 50's came I finally slowed down on the Women's Basketball playing.
