Tis the Season

Once again, this year we went to the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake to ring in the season. The day after Thanksgiving they have this big to do and it is a lot of fun. We went with my parents and sister and got to see Santa and Mrs. Claus and a huge tree, which they lit with a really cute children's choir singing. All the while they had free hot chocolate (the richest stuff I have ever tasted), candied almonds, and hot fresh scones with honey and powdered sugar. So fun!!
After being in the courtyard we went inside to decorate ginger bread men. Jefferson had a lot of fun. Some kids pretty much just dipped their cookies in frosting and sprinkles. I wasn't entirely sure what was under there after they finished.

Then we went and wrote letters to Santa, which the hotel mails for us. I wrote one and so did Jessie, but I couldn't get my parents or Jason to write one. Party poopers.

Jefferson got to mail all our letters for us. I think they are going to North Pole, Arkansas.

They had a gingerbread house contest, and Christmas window display/game, teddy bear town (which Jeffers hated due to the 7 foot grizzly mascot that scared the heck out of him. He started yelling HOME, HOME, AWAY, AWAY, pretty sad) It was really fun though and a great way to start the season. We didn't take pictures with Santa because the line was too long and it's only open two hours. Plus I don't think Jefferson is ready for Santa yet. Don't want to traumatize him, although it does seem like a tradition among parents. Maybe next year.

  1. Don't worry, I was terrified of Santa for a long time util my mom explained that the store Santas were Santa's helpers, since he was busy at the North Pole and couldn't be everywhere at once. Helped a lot, but not sure why that calmed my fears...
