Heavenly

Brigham City has the best peaches that I have ever tasted. They are seriously heavenly. We found a farmers market just up the road and I fell in love. The produce is local so you are supporting the local farmers, they are delicious and in season so you're not paying out the rear for produce that was shipped across or from another country and that makes it a lot more affordable as well. We bought a whole bucket of peaches (about 14-15 pounds) for 12 dollars, you could get 10 squash for a dollar, a dozen ears of really great sweet corn for 2 dollars, etc, etc. It was great. Since Peach Days are this week in Brigham we decided to go all out.

With our beautiful peaches we made 8 half pints of spiced peach butter (fabulous-leaves your house smelling great as well), 6 pints of peach jam, and 4 quarts of peach halves. We also saved about 10 to eat plain. I was so proud of us. Canning is something we just started doing and Jason and I like to do it together which makes it a lot of fun. You just get this sense of accomplishment when you look at the jars. Maybe next year we'll have some land and can even grow the fruit ourselves!!

Our next project is to tackle tomatoes and apples. I just can't wait. Seeing our shelves filling with healthy food storage makes me so darn happy it's ridiculous.

  1. I'm really proud of you guys for tackling canning on your own. It's not hard but very time consumming.

  2. Does Jason make Dad's peach compote for pancakes? We bottled two boxes of tomatoes about a year ago and Daniel vowed never again. Daniel values his time more than canning or any homemaking projects. I am coloring church based file folders for the kids currently and Daniel just keeps asking me WHY? I have 10 colored and 20 left to go. I guess that is why it is best for my hubby to go to his desk job everyday to earn money and feel productive. =)
