Summer Fake No. 2!

While it was quite gorgeous last week, weather wise, it has been suck-o here for the last few days. It has been dark and dreary, rainy, and chilly. Plus allergies are making their appearance and that is pretty annoying, but there have been some bright moments.
My beautiful red zinnias are blooming. They are just so pretty blooming one layer at a time. It's suspenceful really, wondering everyday if today would be the last layer. They are spots of sunshine in the rain soaked days.
Our peach tree at the Stake Orchard is doing really well and is just so nice to look at. I cannot wait until it is laden with juicy peaches. If you don't know--one of the greatest things about living here is the opportunity to learn about agriculture. Our stake has an orchard and for a small fee you can "own" one for a season. All you are required to do in prune at the beginning of the season, weed, and thin the peaches. We have learned a lot from the nice people in our ward and have had a lot of fun as a family seeing it's progress and taking care of it.

Our tree, number 107.

More pretty blossoms. Soooo beautiful.

The stake also has garden plots for those who don't have yards (like us). So we purchased a huge long row for a very small fee and have been going crazy. Jason is obessesed. Absolutely. He has gone totally engineer on the sucker. Don't get me wrong, it's really fun to watch, but sometimes it's just silly. He sits up late at night programing and doing equations to find out the perfect balance of chemicals for our fertilizer, and hand fills jugs upon jugs of water to go water the plants because irrigation hasn't started yet, he tested the soil, and took pictures of the seeds, etc. He is just so lovely. It is great. I weed and plant where Jason says, but pretty much this is his baby. Jefferson just likes to throw and eat the occasional dirt clod. We have planted potatoes, peas, carrots, raddishes, onions, tons of different tomatoes, green beans, corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, cucumbers, zucchini, straight neck squash, and peppers. I just hope we can keep it all alive. I am completely excited to be overrun with vegetables. It's going to be fabulous.

  2. Oh, I got behind on checking on your blog. I have been thinking about looking at it all week. Now you posted and I am behind.

Anyway, this sounds great! Mature peach trees from which you will glean luscious fruit! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! This is truly one of the blessings of being in Brigham City.
